Family Holidays: A guide to planning seasonal celebrations

Gannett News Service

As family and friends of all faiths and cultures look to their past, present and future, particularly during this season of celebration, inspiration and reunions, it is a time to bring the traditions of each decade and generation together to share with all.

But the holiday reunion is no longer a Thanksgiving-to-Christmas affair and the interest in reuniting is becoming increasingly a year-round event in which families are customizing their gatherings and creating their own holidays.

From grandparents to toddlers, the season can become a joyous meeting of holiday heritage passed from old to young and young to old.

Because of the near-magical technology of the last decade, family unable to travel and friends, neighbors and family in the military in faraway lands, no one needs to be excluded from these gatherings.

The stories here present ideas for bringing your family's generations together to share holiday memories, begin new traditions and to leave fingerprints of each family's past for future celebrations.
